Electrical Stimulation in Morgantown
Electrical stimulation (also called electrical muscle stimulation or e-stim) uses safe electrical impulses to stimulate contractions in muscles in areas of your body where you are experiencing pain. This action results in increased blood flow to the muscle, and this increase in circulation brings additional oxygen and nutrients to the muscle cells. This may help reduce inflammation, muscle spasm and pain, and facilitate healing.
At Coliseum Chiropractic, we offer electrical stimulation therapy for patients interested in an additional way to augment the healing process and reduce pain. It works well as an adjunct to chiropractic adjustments. While the adjustments work to correct the position and movement of spinal joints, e-stim helps restore health and function to the surrounding muscles.
When the muscles and soft tissues work properly, they won’t pull your joints back out of position, and your chiropractic adjustments may hold longer. And when the muscles, joints and nervous system are all working together as they should, your body can heal itself so you can experience optimal function.

Our Approach to E-stim
You may receive electrical stimulation either before or after your chiropractic adjustment. We’ll take you into our therapy room and have you lie face down on the table. We’ll place electrodes on your back in any areas of pain, spasm, inflammation or discomfort. Then you can relax while the machine does the work.
You may feel a tingly “pins and needles” sensation or muscle twitches. E-stim should not be painful, so if you experience pain, be sure to let us know right away.
There is a separate fee for electrical stimulation. Most insurance plans cover e-stim; however, Medicare and Medicaid do not cover this service.
